Temper Tantrums

November 24, 2008

“I know when you sit down, when you come and when you go; And, yes, I’ve marked every one of your temper tantrums against me. Because you rage against me and your insolence has reached my ears, I will put my hook in your nose and my bit in your mouth, and I will make you return by the way you came.’

” 2 Kings 19:27, 28

This is still true.  Every time we resist the Lord’s guidance or direction for our lives.  Every time we “decide” that God must have misunderstood what his will for our lives really is.  When the answer to our prayer is not to our liking so we force the situation to be the answer we planned to get.

Years I spent fighting God’s answers to my prayers.  Years I spent questioning why things have happened the way they have.  These are all temper tantrums when the thoughts effect our actions and relationship with God.  When we throw a temper tantrum, we are treating God like a magical genie not a Savior and Father.  This is making yourself God in your life instead of yielding.  Yielding is the toughest part for all of us as we have that flesh that always wants to control our “destiny”.

I wonder what effect the many tantrums have had on the potential we may have been able to affect without that wasted energy and time.   How many people have stumbled and been slowed by another temper tantrums?  How much byproduct my temper tantrums have created?

Lord, help me to mature in my faith and not regress to temper tantrums.  Help me to realize that when your answer is different than expected, your will can be trusted.  You have been faithful even when I doubted your faithfulness.  My faith falters but you have always been faithful to me.
